You feel there's no meaning in life?
We're born and we're buried too
but is there a goal in the world,
a meaning in all that we do?

I know of a meaning in life.
It is that you do your part,
your duty in all to your class -
in action, in thought, in art.

It is that you never give in
contended with laurels won,
but fight with defiant hate
for justice and peace for your son.

For you can have nothing to hope for.
Happiness is not for you.
Your toil is for future ages,
and all that you plan and do.

I know of a meaning in life.
It is, in the nameless throngs
to fight for the working class
with rifles and thoughts and songs

Det er ingen mening med livet?
Du sier: Vi fødes og dør,
men er der et mål med det hele,
en hensikt med alt det vi gjør?

Jeg kjenner en mening med livet.
Det er at du gjør din plikt
i stort og i smått mot din klasse -
i handling, i tanke og dikt.

Det er at du aldri gir efter
for løfter om laurer og lønn,
men trossig og hatefull kjemper
for rettferd og fred for din sønn.

Ti selv har du intet å håpe.
Lykken er ikke for deg.
For fremtidens slekt skal du åpne
en bedre og lysere vei.

Jeg kjenner en mening med livet.
Det er i de navnløses hær
å kjempe for arbeiderklassen
med tanke og sang og gevær.
